Billy Wagner Says the Phillies Suck...and we agree

Billy Wagner says the Phillies need to break up the team. I didn't like the way Billy handled matters immediately after he left the Phillies and subsequently after he joined the Mets, but frankly this article states what needs to be said about the Phillies and its being said by someone who saw it firsthand and isn't being anonymous about it either. It's unlikely that this will stir up anything besides make Philly fans more pissed off about how much the Phils suck, but anyway its worth the read.

Former Phillies closer Billy Wagner said if Gillick breaks up the team, he's doing the right thing. The problem is the team's "nucleus,'' according to Wagner. "That team has as much talent as this one,'' said Mets closer Wagner, whose new club leads the second-place Phillies by 11½ games. "But there's something lacking there.''

And Wagner knows just what it is. He said he admires Gillick and manager Charlie Manuel, and that the problem starts at the very top. Wagner contends it stems from upper management, which insists on coddling and pampering its star young players, the result being a sense of entitlement and a poor understanding of the team concept. "You don't have the leadership you need,'' Wagner said, adding that it isn't fair to expect it yet from relative youngsters such as Ryan Howard and Chase Utley.

Beyond newcomer Aaron Rowand, you don't have much fire, either. "Nobody ever gets upset,'' Wagner said. "If somebody does, he's a big mouth and nobody likes him. They take it as, 'I did my best. I'm going home.' There's nobody screaming, 'Hey, we're better than this!'"

Can France Do It?

If they do manage to pull off a win on Sunday it will be thanks to these two guys.

Why no Portugal videos? Two reasons I'm not rooting for Portugal, they knocked out my team, the Netherlands, in the earlier round, and also I'm taking the Englishman's side, Wayne Rooney, in saying that C. Ronaldo is an ass, though I do admit he is talented.

France!?

I'll admit, I was wrong, I thought the French sucked. Can you blame me? It's very American to think the French suck and you'll normally be right. France though showed up to play today against the Brazilians. Zidane and Henry teamed up for a sweet goal and the team played all day to insure that the Brazilian offense couldn't find the back of the net. I don't know how they kept that team from getting scoring chances, but somehow they did it. Brazil hardly had any shots. Ronaldo is an old, fat, crying baby that probably just got knocked out of his last World Cup. Part of the problem for Brazil I think was that they had too many superstars, just give the ball to Ronaldhino and he'll do the rest. He really is the best player in the world and today it was a combination of him not having a great game and the rest of the team not picking up the slack.
Good show for France, its nice to see Brazil knocked, not so nice though is the fact that four European teams are left to the in World Cup held in Europe, just once again goes to show how important home soil is and how hard it is for the underdogs.

God Save the Queen

I can't believe England was just knocked out of the World Cup. I was skeptical of the English team and I'll admit I wasn't really ready to root hard for them at all. So it took a lot for me as a fierce Irish guy to root hard for England. But England deserved to win this game. I never really got to see any of their other games in the World Cup, but I got to see this one and I saw a great team.
England is definately the team that Americans can pull for. They don't take dives at every oppurtunity like all the other teams - a reason many people say they don't like soccer. They play hard, they have very lively fans, and they have some great superstars. Should that have played a little more aggresive today and worked towards the goal more, yes definately. But Wayne Rooney being red carded out the match was one the worst instant red cards I have ever seen. There was no reason for a red card there. Did the ref realize that he was taking their best offensive player out of the game for accidental step in a rough challenge involving three players or maybe he took him out for a light shove against the best player on the Portugese team. The stepping incident was a foul, but not a card, not a card at all. The push was immature but I liked, he did deserve a yellow for that. I think the ref gave him the red for the push.

Now for the next game I don't really like the French and its not like anyone can root for Brazil, they don't need it and who can root for the favorite. So I'm just looking forward to Brazil winning and Thierry Henry scoring a bunch of goals and making some great players and making a great game out of it.
