phils win

Went to the Phil's game tonight and saw a great win. It was nice to finally see a game this year and a great game at that. Jimmy Rollins played well at the leadoff spot finally. Howard hit another amazing home run, and the phillies piled on the runs which was fun to see. The bullpen held together after Leiber got hurt. 2 wins in a row phils need to go with this and get after the mets and braves in the standings. lieber better not be out for long, but if he is out for awhile this shows pat gillick that he definately needs to get another starting pitcher.
fuck the mets, they need to start losing.

Went sailing today with Uncle Jack for the first time this summer. Sailing is awesome. Flying along the water with the wind is a great feeling. I don't know how those people ride those tiny super fast speedboats, i think i would get bored of those real quick. Sailing takes work to get going and get out there, but eventually you catch and good breeze and can just roll along the water in no particular direction enjoying it all. so yea, i do hope to go sailing a lot more this summer, if anyone wants to come you're welcome to, my uncle will go out any day the weather is right and he doesn't have work, he doesn't care who with.

Bono is great. World Cup is great. Great commercials. Can't wait.

Long Weekend

Well the weekend isn't over yet, but I'm spent. Long weekend of lots of fun. Thursday the parents left with my little brother to go to crew nationals in upstate new York. Thursday after I got home from work I just chilled and enjoyed having the house to myself. In as few words as possible Thursday night was basically just getting high, simple and enjoyable. Friday, I had to go to eye doctors (wake myself up and go there myself - horrible). Working Friday night reminded me how much it sucks to be working as everyone comes in to get something before they go out for the night, but I'm stuck there for the night. Encountered a few hot girls as they came in and a few people that got drunk a bit too early. After work I drove over to Medford, NJ to hang out with Francis and some other jersey guys and prep guys. Yuengling from the tap is delicious, it was a good night, nice to see some people. I got pretty messed up and almost passed out in the grass but made it to a couch thanks to frank.

Saturday Frank, his friend DJ, and I eventually made it to Jam on the River, after a little bit of pregaming and preparing for the show we made it inside. The first band we saw was Benevento Russo Duo, pretty cool keyboard/piano and drums duo. They were entertaining and a good start to our concert. Next up was The New Deal, entertaining band very much like The Disco Biscuits - techno jam band with guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. They definitely took advantage of the big, anxious crowd and really got everyone pumped up for the last band. The Disco Biscuits came on and played an awesome set. I was flying around and really feeling and enjoying the music. It probably wasn't the best set I've ever heard them play, but it was still fun and entertaining and made me glad that I went.
Just as a side note this year there was a lot of smoking going on at jam on the river and I didn't see a single person get caught in any way, that's nice to see. I think its going to be a nice summer season of shows, I'm ready to see some great shows.

That was basically it for my weekend, I went home after the concert because I had to work at 7am. The only bad part of my weekend came when I got lost leaving frank's house and ended up getting pulled over and getting a speeding ticket. Not that big of a deal besides the fact that I don't feel like giving that money to the government and that I was really tired and just wanted to go to sleep. Now I'm just resting up cause tomorrow I'm supposed to go sailing with dad and uncle and then go to the phillies game at night with Charlie, Adam, Prince, and others maybe. Its nice to be home and its nice to have some people back around because let me just say that my house is just too big to be alone in it for a few days.
that's all I got right now, I know it was a lot, can't wait for the world cup - US is beating Latvia 1-0 in the 84th minute of a friendly match. I'm going to watch the end of this and then play some mvp 06 NCAA, have a great memorial day everyone.

World Cup is Coming

Yup, the world cup will be here very shortly (June 9th), so while you can find previews about all the teams many different places, like here, here, here. I can't wait to watch all the games, its going to be awesome to see. But i know the important thing you want to know is how hot are all the wives of these super international footballers. well someone has put together a website to show you. Yea, i know its not in english, just click the pictures stupid.

Also just because i knew you wanted to know injury-plagued Cole Hamel's girlfriend is Heidi Strobel, Survivor girl that posed in Playboy with her Survivor girlfriend. Here are the pictures because i know you wanted to see some.

Phils just salvaged this last game of the series with a win over the mets, its about damn time. Still a long summer ahead, go phils!

rant

Please stop telling me how you hate baseball, dont understand how people like it, dont understand how people can watch the games, dont tell me how you hate the phillies when you dont even know what the hell they are doing this year, dont tell me how the only thing you like about the phillies is jim thome, dont try to tell me you know something about baseball when you obviously dont, dont question every move charlie manuel makes when you would be 100 times worse of a manager than terry francona (his philly tenure), dont ever tell me how you love the yankees or red sox. if you love the yankees you're just a bastard, period. if you love the red sox you dont even know who is on their team, no johnny damon is not on the team anymore even though you thought he was so sexy, i know for a fact you didnt even like the red sox until they won the world series and now "you are so relieved that your team finally won the world series after so many years", shut up you bandwagon mother fucker. if you didnt root for the mets in the last 10 years you can't now. if you rooted for the braves at anytime in the last decade you can not at any time ever speak to me or attend any phillies related event or cheer for them in any way, you are a traitor and will have to do much penance to come back to the phillies.
o man, i'm pretty sure i hate every single person from new york, mets or yankees. forget high school vs high school, or fraternity vs fraternity fights, there needs to be a new york vs philly fight, an all out brawl, because its about time philly gets some respect. ok, the new york thing was unnecessary, but i do basically hate every ignorant baseball person. yes the phils are above .500, yes i can believe that people do actually go to their games, etc. fuck you, go sit in your room and wait for the eagles to be good so you can jump on the bandwagon. when the phillies make the playoffs you dont deserve to go to any of the games.

ps - i still love pat burrell (he just hit a game-tying home run)

16 innings

It was not a good night last night, I lost $5 in poker (though I lasted pretty long) and those darn phillies teased again with another close loss. It was a 16 inning marathon. I watched the first nine innings on tv and listened to the next 2 on the radio and decided it would be good to play some poker instead of stressing over the phils game. I got updates on the game from my friend while i was playing. On the phils side it was as expected, never getting a clutch hit, on the pitching side, I was suprised to hear every inning that Madson was still in. I don't blame Madson for losing that game, I dont understand while he was still in the game for his 8th inning of work. He was over 100 pitches and had 7 innings of work. The Phillies still had Tom Gordon and I think Julio Santana, I dont know where he was.
Besides the fact that Manuel should have taken Myers out, the Phils lost because they got no heart or desire to win. Stupid errors and missed oppurtunities to close out the game took the win away from the Phils all 16 innings. I don't want to have to keep saying this about the Phils cause I love them, but its gotta change.

A few notes on some of the players:
David Bell - I'm sorry to have been hating on him so much in the past and wanting the phils to get rid of him because this last month he has really stepped up and started being a decent 3rd basemen. I still the phillies need to find a replacement for him, but does appear to be doing pretty well this year.
Bobby Abreu - I hate to have to say this because I really want to like him, but hes a bum. I dont care about his recent "hit streak." His numbers for the season so far .281 avg - 5 hr - 31 rbi - .450 obp. I do have to give him credit with his on base percentage and that's because he has a great eye and gets a lot of walks, but thats the only good thing he does anymore. Last night i saw him miss a fly ball that I feel like was the opposite of Rowand's face smash catch, he just doesnt try hard for some balls in the outfield. Alright, you can say that he does actually run fast but he makes it look like hes not, alright well i still think he needs to catch more balls in the outfield, hes a fast guy. If the phils can get a good starting pitcher for him, I say definately get rid of him and give the high flyin Hawaiian an every day job. But what they should not do is just sell him to the yankees for cash, I'm not worried because I dont think Gillick would do that. Basically, I dont think Abreu hustles or has enough grit, heart, whatever you want to call it. I love his talent though so if he picks it up somehow I'll definately support him.
Jimmy Rollins - I love Jimmy and I definately don't want to get rid of him, dont think I'm going there with this. I just want Jimmy to get out of his horrible streak. Maybe he needs to get out of the leadoff spot, I don't really know. I just hate seeing him bat and every time he connects with the ball and he can tell its an out his head just drops. I feel for him and I want him to get better. I think Manuel needs to do something to help him out, just throwing him out there every day at leadoff isnt fixing it. Jimmy's average is down to .242 and an on base of .308, that just doesn't work for a leadoff hitter. Whatever Jimmy did last year to start that streak he needs to do it again and find that groove. God Speed Jimmy, we want you back.

The mets got El Duque from Arizona for only Jorge Julio, I think thats a pretty good deal. Julio is good but not that good, he could turn out to be good for Arizona. Duque is a great pickup for the mets though, which i hate. He should give them what they want and need, and thats bad for the Phillies.

Now what has happened to Cole Hamels, hes apparently injured now! This is not good, pisses me off cause i wanted to see him pitch on monday. O well, cant be selfish, just gotta hope that he's alright and doesn't miss too much. Maybe Madson will be back in the rotation after his showing last night. Who knows, i just hope the Phils start doing better and the starting pitchers start giving us some quality starts.

This Weekend

I just thought I would take the oppurtunity to recommend to everyone to come to Jam on the River down at Penn's Landing Festival Pier, all day Saturday. Some of the bands on Saturday include Benevento Russo Duo, New Deal, and most especially The Disco Biscuits. I can't wait to see the Disco Biscuits, I saw them two years ago at Jam on the River and they blew me away. Its a great time all around and a wonderful kick-off to the summer on memorial day weekend.
Now I don't work for the concert or anything, I just know that I'm going and in the past it has been more fun the more people that you know there. If you are going down the shore this weekend, I'm jealous, but if not you should try to make it out to the show. You'll be glad you did.

Here's some video from the last show I saw of the Disco Biscuits at Rams Head in Baltimore. This isn't my video, I just found it on youtube. Enjoy

High School Track...Wawa

Yesterday I went to Catholic League Track and Field Championship at Widener to cheer on my high school team. Let's just say that the team has seen better days. It was rough, injuries and other stuff hurt the team a lot and they didn't have much to look forward to at champs. I felt bad for the seniors because they were all pretty good and just didnt have a real great year, which I know all about since my season was about as horrible as possible.
Some day, probably when Coach is gone, the team will be good and hopefully I'll be coaching in some form back at the high school ranks.
Good luck to all the seniors going on to track in college, you'll learn that college track is quite the experience.

Hung out with Durnel and Berrodin last night. Yea, Durnel and I are going to be having some good times this summer, watch out, Berrodin too if he isn't down the shore the whole time.

Went back to start my first day of Wawa. They sure do love me there, I hope that mentallity towards me doesn't fade away too soon. I've promised myself that I'm not going to let the stress that working there brings get to me this summer and if I'm succesful at that I'll be much better off. I was really surprised at how many people that I worked with last summer are still there, that sucks. Basically everyone is back except for two of the shift managers, one of whom was cool guy who I really liked and basically the only person I could every shoot the shit with while working. Don't have to work tomorrow though so if anyone wants to do anything tonight or tomorrow let me know.

A New Game...Crew

I got myself a new playstation 2 game, it was about time. Decided on MVP 06, which now is the NCAA version since they could not get the license to the MLB players. It seems to be just like MVP 05 which I spent a lot of time playing, except different hitting and fielding controls. Once I get used to those controls I think I'll like this game. I don't know which college team to take as my team, probably Villanova.

I went to watch my little brother row today at the Stotesbury CUp Regatta, basically one of the most prestigious high school rowing meets in the country. I felt bad that it was the first race I saw him row and his team just had a horrible race and did not do as well as they would have liked.
I also watched the Prep lose a bunch of races, most importantly the Varsity 8. I don't know whats happening over there and I will admit I don't know much about crew, but how we go from finishing 2nd at Henley, to not getting much respect in Philly. I hope they come back better next year, so that my little brother can beat a good team when he's on the varisty 8.

Phils lost their 5th straight to this guy above and its starting to get old like every other year. The Phils need to get some heart and if Aaron Rowand is going to be the only one with any we are going to be in trouble.

Graduation

At first thought Jodie Foster would be nothing special as a graduation speaker, but apparently she turned out differently at the Penn graduation. She spoke well and rapped Eminem's "Lose Yourself" lyrics at the end of the speech. Sounds like it must have been pretty good.
Penn always seems to me to get some pretty good speakers. Let me list some of their past speakers since I looked it up. Kofi Annan (2005), Bono (2004), Archbishop Desmond Tutu (2003), John McCain (2001), Jimmy Carter (1998), ok, I'll stop. I just hope that I get a cool speaker at my graduation.

Alright, enough of that. I don't know how Hopkins graduation went, but I hope it was awesome and I wish the best of luck to all the new graduates that I know.

P.S. No comment on the Phils tonight, yes 4 losses in a row, but if they win next 2 I'll be alright.

Rookie Love

Gavin Floyd, Carlos Ruiz, Shane Victorino, Chris Roberson, and Cole Hamels pictured above

Yesterday after their game the Phillies veterans made the rookies dress up in these outfits as a sort of rookie hazing. I wouldn't call it hazing, but it does look funny. Hopefully these guys keep performing as well as they can.
To see more pics go here

P.S. Did you think that they looked stupider than these guys?

4th and 26

Remember way back when the Eagles were good like this? McNabb ran all over the place back then, Fred-Ex and Pinkston caught passes. O well, maybe this year.

Baseball is the best

One of the best things about summer is baseball. I can watch any baseball game at any time despite what people think and I plan on doing that this summer. Nothing better to remind yourself how great baseball is than to watch Field of Dreams. I sure do hope that everyone has seen it.

Swept by Milwaukee

I come home and the first thing i'm looking forward to is being able to watch the phillies on television once again. I spent $15 watching them on the computer the last month at school. I was excited to be able to watch them at home on the nice big screen tv.
Tuesday night the blown throw by Franklin. Tough loss by one run after a long series of wins, I was alright with it as long they played the last two games of the series well.
Last night another walk-off loss. Let's just say i'm glad i went out instead of staying home to watch this one.
And then today i wake up at 1pm and realize the phils are on, made me so happy. Started off with a 3-0 lead and Cole Hamels was pitching - this was going to be an awesome game. Come 7th inning and phils with a 4-1 lead. Hamels gets in some trouble, gives up the homer. In comes Ryan Madson. I'm thinking alright Madson show us why you deserved that spot in the rotation. Nope, he gives up the lead, 5-4 Brewers. Geeze this streaking phils are going to get swept by the brewers - yea i know the breweres are good this year.
o well, next come the red sox at home and i'm pissed this sold out before i realized it, i might go to the stadium and try to get some day-of tickets, we'll see.

Reason for this thing

Now i know i'm not really the type to have a blog, but i do have a reason for this. Let me explain. Just got back from Hopkins on tuesday and I want to make sure I have a fun, productive, enjoyable summer. Don't want it all to just fly by and not enjoy it. How does the blog plays into that? well when i do something fun or interesting, or when i found out or hear about something worthwhile, or just have some comment to make it i'll post it on this blog. So at the end of the summer I can review this blog and hopefully see that I had a pretty good summer and I can keep track of what I did. I need to make sure i work out a lot, but i'm not sure whether i'll put that online or not yet.

For now this blog will definately consist of me keepin track of what i've done so when the summer is over i can remember it all, and also my feelings about philly sports. I'll put down my responses after some phillies games and such and i want to see how other people feel about them.
